Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our deck building, staining, and property restoration services

Deck Building

How long does it take to build a new deck?
A typical deck build takes 1-3 weeks depending on size and complexity. A simple 12x12 ground-level deck may take just 3-5 days, while a larger multi-level deck with custom features can take 2-3 weeks. Weather conditions and permit timelines can also affect the schedule.
What's the difference between composite and wood decking?
Wood decking costs less upfront and offers a natural look but requires regular staining (every 2-3 years) and has a 10-15 year lifespan. Composite decking costs more initially but requires minimal maintenance, won't rot or splinter, and lasts 25-30+ years. We build both and can help you decide which is right for your needs.
Do I need a permit to build a deck?
Yes, most deck projects in Warren County require a building permit. We handle all permit applications as part of our service, ensuring your deck meets local building codes and safety requirements.
How much does a new deck cost?
Deck costs vary based on size, materials, and features. Wood decks typically range from $15-25 per square foot, while composite decks range from $25-45 per square foot. Use our free Instant Deck Estimator for a personalized quote, or contact us for an in-person estimate.
Can you build a deck on uneven ground?
Absolutely! We specialize in building decks on challenging terrain. Uneven ground often requires additional support posts and creative design solutions, but it can result in beautiful multi-level or elevated deck spaces.

Deck Staining & Restoration

How often should I stain my deck?
Most decks should be stained every 2-3 years, though this varies based on sun exposure, foot traffic, and climate. Signs your deck needs restaining include fading color, water absorption (rather than beading), and gray weathering.
What's the best time of year to stain a deck?
Late spring (May) and early fall (September-October) are ideal in Ohio. You need temperatures between 50-90°F, low humidity, and no rain for 48 hours after application.
Do you need to strip old stain before restaining?
It depends on the condition. If the existing stain is peeling or flaking, it needs to be stripped or sanded. If the stain has simply faded, a thorough cleaning and light sanding may be sufficient.
What's the difference between stain and sealant?
Sealants are clear and only provide water protection. Stains contain pigment that protects against UV damage and adds color. We recommend semi-transparent or solid stains for maximum protection and longevity.
Can you restore a badly weathered deck?
In most cases, yes! Many decks that look beyond repair can be brought back to life with proper cleaning, brightening, sanding, and staining.

Pressure Washing

Is pressure washing safe for my deck?
Yes, when done correctly. We use appropriate pressure settings (typically 1200-1500 PSI for wood decks) and proper technique to clean effectively without damaging wood fibers.
How often should I pressure wash my house?
Most homes benefit from annual pressure washing to remove dirt, mold, and mildew.
Can pressure washing damage my siding?
Improper technique can damage siding, but our trained technicians use appropriate pressure and angles for each material type.
What surfaces can you pressure wash?
We clean decks, patios, driveways, walkways, siding, fences, outdoor furniture, and more.

Pole Barns

How much does a pole barn cost?
Pole barn costs vary widely based on size and features. A basic 24x32 structure typically starts around $15,000-20,000, while larger, fully finished buildings can exceed $50,000.
How long does pole barn construction take?
Most pole barns are completed in 2-4 weeks, much faster than conventional construction.
Do pole barns require a concrete foundation?
No, that's one of their major advantages! Pole barns use posts set directly in the ground, eliminating the need for expensive concrete foundations.
Can a pole barn be used as a workshop or garage?
Absolutely! Pole barns are incredibly versatile. Popular uses include vehicle storage, workshops, hobby spaces, agricultural storage, and even finished living spaces.

Fencing

What types of fencing do you install?
We install wood, vinyl, and metal fencing. Each material has its advantages.
How long does fence installation take?
A typical residential fence (150-200 linear feet) takes 2-4 days to install.
Do you need to call before digging?
Yes! Ohio law requires calling 811 before any digging to locate underground utilities. We handle this as part of our service.
